Overview · One instructor copy
Two-hour drone basics simulator lesson
1 instructor · 8 learners · 4 PCs · pairs · keyboard input, with no physical aircraft. This is not evidence of an actual military standard, official qualification or military delivery record.
Today's learning goals
- Explain keyboard input, neutral input and virtual pause as separate states.
- Follow the screen prompts: checks → start motors → takeoff → hover → move → land → stop motors.
- Observe a partner and describe one action done well and one action to practice next.
Operating assumptions
- The instructor prepares for 20 minutes before class. This is additional to the learners' 120-minute lesson.
- All four PCs need browsers that support local files and WebGL, with identical keyboard settings. Start with USB controllers disconnected.
- No separate instructor PC or projector is assumed. Give a six-minute demonstration at PC1. Learners who cannot see should move closer, then return to their seats.
- An indicated basic-mission duration of about three minutes is not a completion guarantee. Each four-minute instructor observation slot includes recording and movement between PCs.
Seats and anonymous codes
| Station | Operator A code | Operator B code | Starting roles |
|---|---|---|---|
| PC1 · Pair 1 | E01 | E02 | A operates first; B observes. Change roles midway through the block. Observers do not touch the keyboard. |
| PC2 · Pair 2 | E03 | E04 | |
| PC3 · Pair 3 | E05 | E06 | |
| PC4 · Pair 4 | E07 | E08 |
Permitted entries and records
Paper is the main record. In the on-screen Name or code (이름 또는 번호) field, use only E01–E08. Leave Class / affiliation (반(소속)) blank. Do not enter or attach names, service numbers, contact details, unit names, operational information, site locations or classified material.
Choose Independent performance observed / Further practice / Re-observation required. Do not issue completion certificates, qualifications or permission to operate real hardware. An actual staff class and four-PC concurrent operation have not yet been run.

120-minute schedule and role changes
| Elapsed / duration | Topic | Learner activity | Instructor activity |
|---|---|---|---|
| 00–10 / 10 min | Safety and roles | Confirm pause call, anonymous codes and operator/observer roles | Explain neutral input versus pause |
| 10–18 / 8 min | Learn the controls | A 10–14 / B 14–18. Before motor start: P/Esc → Resume (계속하기); small W/S inputs | Visit each pair for 2 min; check unexpected input |
| 18–24 / 6 min | Seven-step demonstration | Everyone observes; other PCs remain paused | PC1: checks through landing and motor stop |
| 24–36 / 12 min | Initial attempt | A 24–30 / B 30–36. Peer observation and self-check; no score comparison | PC1→4 in each A/B block; 90 sec per pair |
| 36–56 / 20 min | Repeat the steps | A 36–46 / B 46–56. Repeat a run, starting with takeoff and hover at A | PC1→4 in each block; 2 min 30 sec per pair |
| 56–61 / 5 min | Break | Pause every PC; confirm the paused screen before the break. Do not toggle an already paused PC | Check PCs; choose actions needing more practice |
| 61–73 / 12 min | Targeted repetition | A 61–67 / B 67–73. Repeat difficult actions, such as moving to B and landing | PC1→4 in each block; 90 sec per pair |
| 73–76 / 3 min | Observation briefing | Prepare codes, settings and paper assessment sheets; pause all PCs | Explain observation order and N/A |
| 76–108 / 32 min | Individual observation | Only the learner with the instructor operates. Others remain paused and write procedures/feedback | Observe 8 learners in sequence, 4 min each |
| 108–120 / 12 min | Wrap-up and feedback | Review the internal judgment; write one next action | 1 min feedback per learner, plus 4 min group review |
Total: 120 minutes. Before observation, A and B each have 26 minutes of allocated input time (4+6+10+6), plus a four-minute individual observation slot. Pauses and recording may reduce actual simulated flight time. Do not record peer observations as direct instructor assessment.
Individual instructor observation order
| 76–80 | PC1 A · E01 | 80–84 | PC2 A · E03 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 84–88 | PC3 A · E05 | 88–92 | PC4 A · E07 |

| 100–104 | PC3 B · E06 | 104–108 | PC4 B · E08 |
Observe until 3:15 in each slot. Use the remaining 45 seconds for a safe pause, oral feedback, marking and moving. Record unseen actions N/A; do not rush. The instructor runs this timer; the basic menu does not enforce it.

Instructor preparation and opening script
20 minutes before class · Check readiness
- Complete the checklist for all four PCs. Each PC needs the protected master copy's complete sim folder stored locally. Do not copy index.html alone.
- Check the launch path below. On other PCs, use their own prepared local sim/index.html.
- Open sim/index.html in the local simulator folder with a browser. Set Altitude hold (높이 유지 보조) on, Indoor air movement (실내 공기 흔들림) off. Use Follow view (추적 시점) and do not change views with C during class.
- PC check (PC 점검) measures for about 10 seconds. Check readable text and responsive input. If needed, change graphics to Light (가볍게) or Very light (아주 가볍게) and check again. Return to the start screen and open Start basic mission (기초 임무 시작).
- Test W/S, arrows, P/Esc, Resume (계속하기), and Space after landing. Disconnect unused USB controllers; avoid simultaneous input sources.
- Prepare: one schedule, one script, eight learner worksheets, eight assessment sheets, one classroom checklist plus four PC sheets, and one feedback sheet. A copy means all pages of that HTML document.
00–10 min · Read aloud
“Today we practice basic control of an aircraft on screen. We are not using a real aircraft or taking a military qualification test. Use only codes E01–E08.”
“One person operates; the other observes. Pause before changing roles. If you need help: release the keys, press P or Esc if flying, confirm the paused screen, and call me. Releasing the keys alone may leave the aircraft moving through inertia.”
Check understanding: Ask each observer to say “P/Esc pauses the flight” and the operator to point to the keys. Confirm that every PC is running virtual flight.
Instructor 2/4 · Minutes 10–36
Controls, neutral input and demonstration
10–18 min · A 4 min / B 4 min
| Input | Teaching guidance |
|---|---|
| W / S | Ascend / descend. Press briefly, release and observe the response. |
| ↑↓←→ | Move forward/backward and sideways. Follow the screen and aircraft heading; use one axis at a time. |
| A / D | Turn in place. Check the function, but keep the initial heading throughout this lesson. |
| Shift + movement key (W/S, A/D or an arrow key) | Precision input for small adjustments. |
| Space | Start motors on the ground / stop motors after landing. Not an airborne stop control. |
| P / Esc | Virtual pause. Confirm the paused screen and “Flight is paused” (비행이 멈춰 있습니다.). |
P/Esc is a toggle. Do not press it again if already paused: another press may resume flight. Check the screen state first.
“Neutral means all control keys are released. Horizontal motion can remain even with altitude hold. Use P/Esc when you need to pause completely. Before resuming, release all control keys and check the screen.”
Before motor start, each learner tries P/Esc → Resume (계속하기) once. Release the keys and wait briefly before resuming. Do not assume the basic menu has the beginner module's neutral-input interlock.
18–24 min · Seven-step demonstration on PC1
- Start basic mission (기초 임무 시작) → Read and confirm the three on-screen checks. Guards, battery and a 2 m clear area are simulated procedures, not completed physical checks.
- Start the motors with Space. Use a brief W input to take off. Watch the altitude and prompts.
- Hold about 1 m above ring A. Complete the Hover for 5 seconds (제자리 비행 5초) prompt.
- Use small inputs toward ring B as prompted. Release the keys, observe deceleration, and complete the Wait 2 seconds (2초 대기) prompt.
- Descend slowly with S at B's center. After full ground contact and no movement, stop motors with Space. Confirm “Motors off” (시동 꺼짐) or the results screen.
24–36 min · Initial peer observation
A 24–30 min; B 30–36 min. Attempt a full run; mark only observed actions. In each block, visit PC1→2→3→4 for 90 seconds each, checking neutral input and P/Esc first.
Role-change procedure: Release keys → P/Esc only on the active flight screen → confirm pause → record observations → Return to start (시작 화면으로) → change Name or number (이름 또는 번호) to the next E-code and clear Class/unit (반(소속)) → Start basic mission (기초 임무 시작). If paused or on a crash/results screen, use Return to start without P/Esc. Restart from beginning (처음부터 다시) and Try again (다시 하기) repeat the same learner’s practice. Never hand over while airborne.
Instructor 3/4 · Minutes 36–108
Repetition and instructor observation
36–56 min · Repeat from takeoff and hover
A 36–46 min; B 46–56 min. Begin every run with checks. First focus on takeoff and hover at A, then extend to movement to B and landing. Use one axis at a time; wait for the response after a small input.
Visit PC1→4 for 2 minutes 30 seconds per pair in each A/B block. Give feedback on one action at a time: “Read the altitude,” “Does it still move after you release the keys?” or “What is your next small input?”
56–61 min · Break
“Release the keys and pause with P/Esc if flying. Leave already paused PCs paused. Take a break after the observer confirms the paused screen.”
Personally check all four paused screens. Anyone feeling dizzy or tired should rest away from the display. Mark their unobserved attempt N/A.
61–73 min · One action to improve
A 61–67 min; B 67–73 min. Choose the most difficult action from the observation sheet. Try a full run, focusing on that action. Visit each PC for 90 seconds per block. Keep the view, altitude-hold and air-movement settings unchanged.
73–76 min · Prepare individual observation
“I will observe one person at a time. Only the PC I am at may run; the others stay paused while learners write procedures and feedback. Observers must not give hints. You may ask for help; record any help honestly.”
76–108 min · 8 learners × 4 min
Order: E01→E03→E05→E07→E02→E04→E06→E08. Follow the fixed schedule slots. Confirm the learner code and common settings, then start a separate timer.
- 0:00–3:15: Directly observe P/Esc → Resume (계속하기) before motor start, three simulated checks, motor start, takeoff, hover, movement to B, landing and motor stop.
- At 3:15: If unfinished, release keys and pause with P/Esc. Do not rush a landing or ask the learner to press Space while airborne.
- 3:15–4:00: Ask for one sentence on an action done well and one on next practice. Mark the sheet and move to the next PC. Record only what the instructor directly observed.
Instructor 4/4 · Exceptions and minutes 108–120
Interruptions, recovery and wrap-up
Distinguish three states
| State | Action and confirmation |
|---|---|
| Neutral input | Release all W/S, A/D, arrow and other control keys. Motion through inertia may remain after input falls. Do not treat this as a fixed stop. |
| Virtual pause | P/Esc → confirm the paused screen and “Flight is paused” (비행이 멈춰 있습니다.). Before Resume (계속하기), release the keys and check the situation and learner code. |
| Normal shutdown | Land at B → confirm ground contact and no movement → stop motors with Space. Airborne motor stopping with Space is blocked. |
Responding to problems
| Situation | Instructor response |
|---|---|
| Confusion or a request for help | Release keys → P/Esc if flying → confirm pause. The operator waits hands off. Explain one action only. Mark verbal help 1; instructor takeover makes that item 0. |
| Virtual collision or crash | Record one cause without blame. Start a fresh attempt using results-screen Try again (다시 하기) or pause-screen Restart from beginning (처음부터 다시). Do not confuse a virtual crash with a physical equipment incident. |
| Missing or reversed input | Check screen/input focus, the English keyboard layout, stuck keys and simultaneous USB input. Do not press random keys while troubleshooting. Defer observation as N/A. |
| Frozen screen or browser error | If P/Esc does not respond, release all keys and let the instructor stop the trial. Confirm that only virtual flight is running. Record the device issue and interruption time, then relaunch. |
| One or more PCs unavailable | Record that the four-PC assumption was not met. Use paper procedures/demonstration for the remaining time and reschedule missed individual observations. Do not claim equal practice allocation or completed assessment for all eight. |
If a help call interrupts another learner's slot, mark unseen items N/A. On a shared “Pause all” call, each operator pauses their own PC with P/Esc if it is flying. There is no assumed remote stop-all control.
108–120 min · 1 min each + 4 min review
“This sheet records internal practice observed on screen today. We will observe any unseen actions another time. Tell me one action you did well and one to repeat next.”
Give each learner one minute of feedback. Use four remaining minutes for next practice, PC issues and lesson improvements. Reconcile all eight assessment sheets with the feedback record. End with every PC paused or landed with motors off.
The designated internal owner keeps paper records or an approved internal copy. Do not share externally or upload automatically. Set a retention period and dispose of records under internal rules when it ends. Do not use learner details or PC diagnostic files on the public website.

One thing that changed after repetition
Before changing roles
Release keys → P/Esc only on the active flight screen → confirm pause → record observations → Return to start (시작 화면으로) → change Name or number (이름 또는 번호) to the next E-code and clear Class/unit (반(소속)) → Start basic mission (기초 임무 시작). If paused or on a crash/results screen, use Return to start without P/Esc. Restart from beginning (처음부터 다시) and Try again (다시 하기) repeat the same learner’s practice. Never hand over while airborne.
Do not compete on completion time or score. Automatic screen results use the program's internal criteria.
